Classes engaging in interactive group speaking or singing will occur in outdoor areas, or in areas that can safely accommodate social distancing. Dr. Nielsen has worked with the Facilities Department to have an awning installed on the Kayce Russell Terrace to help accommodate outdoor vocal and instrumental music instruction in the Ralston Fine Arts Center.
Middle School and Upper School Clubs are permitted to meet in classrooms, as long as the meeting has 16 students or less. However, they are encouraged to meet outside when possible. Meeting times may be during lunch, break, and after school.
In accordance with school guidelines, there are no conventionally-staged, large-group, audience-based, after-school performance-oriented events planned for Middle School and Upper School Fine Arts this fall.
Middle School and Upper School will not participate in GISA One-Act play competition this year; however, we hope to stage all spring performance events, including the MS/US Spring Musical.
Field trips will be decided on an individual basis and will follow bus travel protocol. Teachers are encouraged to invite guest speakers on campus and have onsite field trips outside, when possible. All individuals invited to campus should be screened for COVID-19. In Lower School, parents are invited to transport their child to/from class field trips.
We have cancelled the Middle School Carpe Vitam trips originally scheduled for the last week of October. We are exploring the possibility of a Carpe Vitam experience for Middle School students in the spring, possibly the first week of March.
Coaches, teachers, and administrators will carefully evaluate the use of school and charter busses and will activate a social-distancing plan when using them.
Every effort will be made to ensure that students continue to receive the utmost guidance and support related to college counseling, in fulfillment of Frederica Academy’s mission to aid students in finding their college of best fit. Student and parent meetings will continue to be scheduled by the college counselor and will take place in the College Counseling Center. Evening programs, including Sophomore Class College Night, Junior Class College Night, Senior Class College Night, and College Financial Aid Night will move to a virtual platform.
