| back | | Varsity Boys Basketball advance to Final Four (2/19/12) | | | The varsity boys basketball team defeated Furtah Prep Academy this past weekend. With the win, the team advances to the Final Four where it will defend its state title. The semi-final game will be played against Curtis Baptist on Thursday, February 23, at 5:30 p.m., at Georgia College & State University (231 W. Hancock Street, Milledgeville, GA 31061).
The opportunity for the boys' team to make its third trip in four years to the State Final Four would not have been possible without some heroic efforts in Cochran this afternoon. Many pundits believed that Furtah Prep could not be beaten. Before today, Furtah played 31 games against some very good teams. It won all 31 games ... until it played its 32nd game against our Knights!
Sam Heery led Frederica's scorers with thirty points, helping the Knights defeat Furtah in overtime. Sam was especially impressive at the line, where he was 14 of 16. Strong play from the other two senior players, Dru Love and Billy Shuman, along with great performances by Khari Pressley, Malcolm Mann, Eli Yarbrough and several other Knights helped the team keep its composure after the Furtah team sank a half-court, desperation shot to take the game to overtime ... and then jumped to a five-point lead in extra play. Coach Morgan reports that it was one of the most amazing high school basketball games he has ever witnessed and credits Coach Wilson for creating another special memory for his players and for all Knights' fans. | | back | |
