Lady Knights Victorious
Claire Angelich converted a Brooke Bourne pass into a bucket with 4.5 seconds left to play and the Frederica Academy girls basketball team began its quest for a state title Wednesday with a 26-25 win in the Georgia Independent School Association Class AA tournament in Dawson. Angelich, Mary Ellen Shuman and Anne Marie Slaton each scored 6 points to lead the Lady Knights (14-10) into the second round to face either Briarwood or Harvester Christian on Friday in Cochran. “It was a painfully ugly game,” said FA girls coach Randy Rogers, whose team rallied from a double-digit deficit to cut the lead to three with 12 seconds left, then converted twice to win. “Nice assist by Brooke, and Claire put it in.” The Lady Knights entered as a No. 1 seed after winning the Region 2-AA tournament.
