Frederica Model United Nations (2/13/12)

Frederica's team of 23 delegates represented the nations of Columbia, Greece, Iran, Jordan, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, North Korea and Tanzania. Frederica Academy received the Honorable Mention, or third place, overall school award.

For the second year in a row, Frederica students were recognized for the top individual awards. Senior Andrew Mullis and sophomore Savanna Kicklighter were designated as the Outstanding Delegation, representing Iran in the General Assembly. Senior Elizabeth Martin and sophomore Sellers Pickens, both first year participants, received Honorable Mention for their representation of Myanmar in the General Assembly. Sophomore Alexis McBride was recognized as Honorable Mention as Colombia for General Assembly. Sophomore Isaac Daley was awarded Honorable Mention as Libya in the African Union.

The team consisted of seniors Owen Barrett, Will Ellenberg, Evan Jarmusch, Elizabeth Martin, Andrew Mullis, Graham Parker and Connor Ryals; juniors Lia Attwater, McClain Culver, Karla Hernandez, and Wayland Yeung; sophomores Sarah Crosby, Alex Cutia, Isaac Daley, Dante Hernandez, J.D. Keith, Savanna Kicklighter, Alexis McBride, Alexis Mitchell, Cole Mullis, and Sellers Pickens; and freshmen Stephanie Baione and Brandon Blake.

Please join me in recognizing these young people for their hard work and accomplishments. Owen Barrett, Will Ellenberg, Rachel Goodman, Evan Jarmusch and Andrew Mullis served as effective team leadership and are completing multiple years of commitment to Model United Nations.

This conference finishes out the Model United Nations season for the year. Earlier in the school year, the team attended the Southeastern Model United Nations Conference in Atlanta, and completed a textbook drive for rural African communities.

A special thanks to Jody Bradford who cheerfully gives of her time as co-advisor for weekly meetings, late nights, and long bus drives; Jim Cutia who volunteers as chaperone; Deirdre Byers who oversaw the Books for Africa project; and all the teachers and parents for their support of the team.
