(1/25/12) | | | Anne Marie Slaton, Sam Heery, Dru Love and Billy Shuman inspired their teammates as both varsity basketball teams defeated First Presbyterian on Tuesday at the last home game of the season. The girls’ team remains undefeated in region competition having won the last five games in a row. The boys’ team dominated a very talented First Presbyterian team. Both varsity teams head north this weekend to face region foes. On Friday night, they play Curtis Baptist in Augusta and on Saturday afternoon they travel to Waynesboro to play Edmund Burke. FA earns sweep The Brunswick News The Frederica Academy boys and girls basketball teams swept First Presbyterian Christian Academy on senior night on Tuesday. The FA boys (14-2 overall, 4-1 Region 2-AA) defeated the Highlanders 58-41 behind senior Sam Heery’s 18 points. Khari Pressley added 15 points and Malcolm Mann chipped in 11. The Lady Knights (9-9, 5-0) routed the Lady Highlanders 52-29 on the strength of 25 points from Mary Ellen Shuman. Claire Angelich contributed 12 points in the victory.
In Middle School action, the girls’ team defeated RECA in the opening round of the Glynn County Middle School Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. The girls advance to play #2-seed Needwood at Needwood on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. The winner of the game advances to the County Championship game on Thursday afternoon at Needwood.
Despite having just beat them at home last week, our Middle School boys’ team lost to Glynn Middle in the opening round of the Glynn County Middle School Tournament. The team will re-group this week to prepare for the upcoming GISA Middle School regional tournament hosted by David Emanuel Academy.
MS basketball tourney starts The Brunswick News The area middle school basketball tournament began Tuesday with four teams securing semifinal berths. In the boys tournament, Devonte Hill’s 29 points carried No. 3 seed McIntosh Middle past sixth seed Risley Early College Academy 56-15 in a game at Needwood Middle. James Baker added nine points for McIntosh. No. 1 seed Needwood will host No. 4 seed Glynn Middle today after Glynn beat No. 5 seed Frederica Academy. In the girls tournament, No. 3 seed Frederica defeated the sixth seed RECA girls 28-17 behind 17 points from Nia Pressley and nine points from Lucy Brooks. The No. 4 seed Glynn Middle girls defeated fifth seed McIntosh 34-12 in the other semifinal. | | back | |
