COMMUNITY SERVICE

“To whom much is given much is expected”

The community service activities at Frederica Academy provide an opportunity for students, families, and staff to share themselves and their resources with those in need. Our projects range from local to global and include gifts of time, talent, labor, and spirit. There is no requirement for service at FA, but students are strongly encouraged to participate throughout their school years.

In Lower School, classroom based projects involve children in everything from making bag lunches for our local soup kitchen to providing medicines for needy children around the world.

Our Middle School curriculum includes a community service component which provides for off campus service events during Exploratory Period. These projects include serving meals at Manna House, maintaining the DNR/Glynn County joint project Rain Garden at Epworth, assisting Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, and many other agencies and activities. In addition, Middle School students have after school opportunities to do faculty or parent supervised service around our area several times per month.

As students move through the Upper School years they are encouraged to develop leadership in conceiving, planning and performing service in a wider arena. Community Service traditions at Frederica Academy Upper School include Habitat for Humanity, MAP International, Special Olympics, Manna House, Relay for Life, American Red Cross Disaster Relief, Blood Drives, Christmas Family Adoptions, and many others.

High School students plan, reflect upon, and record their service activities through our partnership with GivingPoint (www.mygivingpoint.org) a non profit organization that supports teen community involvement.
