School Guidance & College Placement Counseling

Grades 9 - 12

 

At Frederica Academy, guidance and counseling are organized around the belief that the ninth through twelfth grade experience is a developmental process which helps our students set and meet academic and nonacademic goals.  We also believe that our program complements the school's mission statement, "To maximize the potential of each student and prepare him/her for college and adult life through the development of mind, body and spirit."


As a college preparatory school, much of the advising at Frederica in the Upper School takes place within the context of our understanding of the requirements for college admission. A simplified calendar of activities for the four years of high school includes the following:


Freshmen and Sophomores

  • Meet with the college counselor to develop a four-year academic plan
  • Explore Naviance
  • Attend local and regional college fairs, as well as college visits on Frederica Academy’s campus
  • Discuss course selection with the college counselor
  • Freshmen and Sophomores: Take the Pre-ACT
  • Sophomores: Take the Preliminary SAT (PSAT)
  • Sophomores: Attend Sophomore Class College Night

Juniors

  • Take the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) and Pre-ACT
  • Take SAT and/or ACT exams
  • Explore Naviance
  • Attend local and regional college fairs, as well as college visits on Frederica Academy’s campus
  • Attend Junior Class College Night
  • Discuss course selection with the college counselor
  • Attend an individual college conference with the college counselor

Seniors

  • Attend Senior Class College Night
  • Attend local and regional college fairs, as well as college visits on Frederica Academy’s campus
  • Take SAT and/or ACT exams
  • Meet regularly with college counselor to develop an application timeline & work to complete college applications
  • Attend College Financial Aid Night
